Shirley Newhart our Director of Music, studied at Wilkes University where she earned her BS degree in music education. Her first teaching position was with the Sayre Area School District where she worked as an elementary, junior, and senior high school music educator for 6 years. While in Sayre, she earned her Master of Music Education degree from Ithaca College. Later, she was employed as an adjunct professor at Elizabethtown College in the capacity of Director of the Preparatory Division of Music and taught piano and Secondary Music Education to music majors. Ms. Newhart did post graduate work at Westminster Choir College. She taught elementary vocal and instrumental music for the Lower Dauphin School District and retired in 2008 to pursue her love of church music. The music program of the Presbyterian Congregation, Middletown, offers opportunities for personal expression, learning, and service to the church.
Chancel Choir The Chancel Choir sings for worship every Sunday, September through June. Instrumentalists in the congregation and community are encouraged to share their talents as soloists. The choir rehearses Wednesday evenings at 7:15, and Sunday mornings @ 10:00 AM
Presbyterian Bells of Praise The Presbyterian Bells of Praise is an intergenerational group of eleven hand bell players. Rehearses at 6:15 Wednesday evenings.
Church School Singers This group for the youngest performers in the church is led by Shirley Newhart. The group participates in worship monthly from September through June and rehearses during the Sunday school hour.
Hand Chime Choir This group for junior hand bell players is currently being organized for children in grades three through eight.
